Full Scale Search and Rescue Drill at Otter Creek County Park

There will be a Full Scale Search and Rescue Drill at Otter Creek County Park (
2283 Park Road, Toledo, IA
) on 21 April 2012.

All emergency responders and volunteers can sign in at the Tama County Emergency Management Agency Mobile Command Unit trailer. The Mobile Command Unit will be set-up outside the Otter Creek Nature Center (
148 Nature Center Road
, Otter Creek Park, Toledo, IA).

This exercise will involve searching for several volunteers simulating victims who are lost in the woods.

All Tama County emergency responders are welcome and encouraged to attend.

This drill is anticipated to last several hours (exact time subject to speed of exercise completion).

Gear & Weather reminder – Please remember to bring appropriate emergency response gear and weather appropriate clothing.

The Tama County Emergency Management Agency will provide a meal for active participants.

Due to anticipated heavy attendance the Weather spotter class has been moved to the Nature Center at Tama County’s Otter Creek Park (

Contact your local emergency manager to learn about the local education and training opportunities available to you. Let this person know about your interest in taking CERT training.

*Attain certification in NIMS 700a and ICS 100 through FEMA (online)

*Pass a criminal history / background check

*Sign a letter of understanding and waiver from Tama County and be at least 18 years old

Hazardous Materials Operations for EMS 16 hour Class in Toledo

Regarding – Hazardous Materials Operations for EMS 16 hour Class in Toledo         


There will be a free Hazardous Materials Operations for EMS 16 hour Class (Initial Certification) available to any interested Tama County area responders / civil employees. This class is provided free of charge by Waterloo Fire / Haz Mat through the NIRG (Northeast Iowa Response Group) agreement. Any responder or public employee is welcome to attend.

The Class will be held at the Toledo Fire Station.

The Class will be held 10 March through 11 January 2012.

The Class will begin at 0900 hours (9:00am) and end at 1700 hours (5:00pm).

Training materials required will be provided by NIRG.

Full EMS Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required for the second day of class (weather dependant). The Class Instructor will advise participants on day one.

Weather Spotter Training Class in Toledo

Regarding – Weather Spotter Training Class in Toledo           


There will be a free National Weather Service “Spotter Training” 1 ½ - 2 hour Class available to any interested Tama County area responders / civil employees. This class is provided free of charge by National Weather Service. Any responder, public employee or member of the public is welcome to attend.

The Class will be held at the Tama County Board of Supervisors Chambers (
104 W. State Street, Toledo
).

The Class will be held 28 February 2012.

The Class will begin at 1900 hours (7:00 pm) and end at approximately 2030 - 2100 hours (8:30 – 9:00 pm).

Training materials required will be provided by the National Weather Service.
